The blogTV Facebook application enables Facebook users to broadcast a live, interactive show on their Facebook profile page. The application creates an embedded “TV” screen on your profile page. • During your broadcast there is also a chatroom going. So viewers can send you instant feedback and commentary on your show. There is also the option of sending private messages.

• You can have a co-host who will appear in a box next to you. Good way to get some banter going.

• The site keeps track of stats about your show. So you can see how many viewers you have during the show and if your fan base is growing. There is also a star rating system in place so viewers can give you the thumbs up or thumbs down.

• You can schedule the time of your broadcast so your friends will know when to tune in to your show.

BlogTV Cons:

• blogTV is not a uniquely Facebook application. You can embed a blogTV player on any blog or website.

What is the Music Video Facebook Application?

Music Videos allows you to display your favorite videos from your favorite artists. There’s a pretty large selection to choose from. I was also impressed how the videos are organized in by artist, most popular, and most users. Overall, this was a well done app.

•  Very large selection of videos to choose from
• Categorized by Most Popular, Newest, and Favorite Vidoes
• You can also see your friends favorite videos
• See videos listed by Artist

Music Video Cons

• Not very original. We already have several video sharing apps. Most music videos are on YouTube or Google Video so someone could just use those.

The Daily Show News Facebook Application allows you to display clips or entire shows of the Daily Show right in your Facebook Profile. The way it works is you watch a show on the app’s canvas page, and your latest viewed show will be displayed on your profile page.

What is the SplashCast Facebook App?

SplashCast allows you to create your own channels to which programming from across the web can be added, including video, pics, podcasts, and music. All this is then embedded into your Facebook profile. Basically, this app does the job of five different Facebook applications.

For example, say you’re a baseball fan. You could create a channel or “show” dedicated to your favorite team. Included in that channel are video clips of games, and pics of your favorite players, Pretty dang awesome if you ask me.

• Compile your web content all in one place
• Awesome integration with Facebook
• Very slick looking interface
• Super easy to use

SplashCast App Cons

• Some people have reported problems uploading certain files, but there are work arounds that are pretty easy.
• Other than that, I haven’t seen anything else wrong with this app.

SplashCast is an example of what a Facebook application should strive to be. Instead of just trying to do one simple task, applications should look to do several things well at the same time. Cheers to the SplashCast developers!

What is the myTV Facebook Application?

myTV allows you to create your own channel of videos that are displayed on your profile page. You can search YouTube videos directly from the application and add them quickly to your channel.

myTV Pros

• Easily add your favorite videos to you Facebook Profile
• You have the entire YouTube library to choose your videos from
• You can see what the most popular video adds are as well as your friends adds
• Leverages Facebook’s social network by allowing people to easily share videos with each other

myTV Cons

• I actually couldn’t see much wrong with this app. I didn’t have any bug problems and it’s actually really fun to use.

Flixster Facebook Application

What is the Flixster Facebook Application?

Flixster allows you to rate and review movies and get recommendations from your friends. When you open the app, you’re taken to a window that allows you to search movies or find out showtimes for movies in your area. To give this app a test spin, I typed in Office Space in the search box. After hitting “Go” I was taken to a page dedicated to all things Office Space.

I was given all the info about the film including a synopsis, cast, director, rating, and when it was released. I was able to give Office Space a rating and small review and see what other have rated and said about the film. There’s also a space that tells me which of my Facebook friends have seen and reviewed Office Space. Finally, the app offers suggestions of movies that are similar to Office Space.

On your profile page, you’ll find a list of your most recently reviewed movies. If you friends have the app installed, you can see what they’ve been watching lately.

Flixster Pros

• Does an amazing job leveraging Facebook’s network ability.
• Easy to use interface.
• Useful information. I was impressed with the movie recommendation feature.

Flixster Cons

• I really couldn’t find anything wrong with the app. They did a great job. If you have any critiques, I’d love to hear them.

Flixster is probably the best Facebook app I reviewed so far. Its biggest strength is that it leverages Facebook’s social network to the max. It also created a tool that didn’t already exist with just the normal Facebook site. Developers should definitely take a lesson from Flixster on how to create apps.

I think the Facebook Video application has a chance to give YouTube a run for their money. I’m looking forward to seeing what Facebookers will use this application for. Most will probably post druken videos, but many will create creative and entertaining content. If used correctly, the Video application could be an effective tool to promote your business or brand. Go and install the Facebook Video application pronto.
