What is the Jetsetter Application?
People like to travel. People like to discuss how much they have traveled, where they’ve been, where they are going next, and more importantly comparing their experiences against other frequent travelers. The Jetsetter application, let’s you take this one-upsmanship to the next level.
Jetsetter easily lets you see how many miles you have traveled on your trips, and see who among your friends is more world traveled. I haven’t been anywhere in awhile, unless you count going home for the holidays and that was about 300 miles (there and back), so I can’t really compete with anyone using the application.
You are able to see where you friends have gone and comment on their adventures. And if you feel some wanderlust, the Jetsetter application has a quicklink to VibeAgent to help you find the right hotel and travel arrangements. Admittedly, the whole application seems to be an interesting way for VibeAgent to advertise.
Pros
- Simple and easy to use application
- Easy to see where you and others have been
Cons
- Experienced some errors at the moment. The Fleet section (your friends) had problems loading. Also took a couple of tries for the actual application to load.

Flag Collector Facebook Application
What is the Flag Collector Facebook Application?
Flag Collector is an app the likes of which I’ve never seen before. Essentially what you do with Flag Collector is collect country flags from all around the world. There’s a catch though. In order to collect flags, you either have to buy or barter with other Flag Collector users. They way you buy flags is by answering quiz questions on the app’s homepage. After you earn enough points, you can buy a flag. If buying isn’t your thing, you can trade flags with other users. Each flag has a different value, so users will pay only for what it’s worth.
The object of all this buying and trading is to collect every flag. So, in that end, Flag Collector is like a big giant game. I think it’s a unique idea and a great way to use Facebook’s social network. I’d be interested to see what inspired the developers to come up with this app.
Flag Collector Pros
- It’s fun!
- Has every flag in the world.
- Statistics page lets you see who has the most flags and which flags are rare.
Flag Collector Cons
- It would be cool if they added U.S. state flags.
- There are a few bugs, but the developers have done an excellent job fixing them.

Carpool Facebook Application
What is the Carpool Facebook Application?

Carpool is one of the few actually useful Facebook apps out there right now. Carpool allows you to create carpools right from Facebook. It takes full advantage of Facebook’s social network and allows users to find rides to different locations.
Let’s say you need a ride home from school for Christmas break. You can get on Carpool and search if anyone else is heading your direction and hitch a ride with them. You can also create reoccurring carpools for commutes to school or work.
Carpool’s interface is simple and easy to use. One of the nice features is its integration with Google Maps, so you can see where your rides live. From the canvas page you can create a ride offer or requests. People will be able to discover it either by searching or looking in your network page. Carpool displays a box on your profile with your carpool requests and offers so Facebook users can see.
Another cool feature is that you can keep track of how many miles you have carpooled. The app will then calculate your reduction in CO2 emissions. Pretty sweet.
Carpool Pros
- Easily create carpools
- Save money and the environment
- Easy to use
- Works in the US, Canada, and England
Carpool Cons
- Better route organization. This a small one. The app is still incredibly useful even with this. Besides, the developers are already working to improve it.

Gusto! Facebook Application
What is the Gusto! Facebook Application?
The Gusto! app allows you to get feedback from your friends about what are the best things to do or where to eat in a particular city. Gusto! is really easy to use. You just type in which city you’re asking about, select the friends you want to ask, check what you’re asking about (places to eat, what to do, or where to stay), and finally you send a message giving specific details about what you want to know. You send a request for feedback and your friends can respond giving you all the inside info you’d ever want.
The best feature about Gusto! is that it ranks places by popularity depending on the answers your friends give. So, if all your friends recommend Joe’s Chicken Shack, Joe’s Chicken Shack will be at the top of the list.
Gusto Pros
- Get quick feedback on the best places to visit in any town
- Very easy to use
- No bugs! Yeah
Gusto Cons
- Do we really need this app? Couldn’t we just send a global message to our friends asking for recommendations? Yes. But Gusto!’s redeeming factor is the popularity ranking. You can’t get that with just messaging your friends.
Overall, Gusto! is a great app. I can see this being particularly useful when planning trips. Instead of relying on some tour guide, you can just bust out Gusto! and get all local recommendations.

- Takes advantage of Facebook’s social network

Cities I’ve Visited Facebook Application
What is the Cities I’ve Visted Facebook Application?
The Cities I’ve Visited app is very similar to the Where I’ve Been app, except of just marking the countries you’ve visited, you can mark specific cities. After installing the app, you’re taken to a page with a Google Map that you can zoom and pan with. You can then put a pin point in all the cities you’ve been to. It has a nice feature that will bring up a list of the major cities that the map is covering at that moment, so it makes it easier to pick your cities.
Cities I’ve Visited Pros
- Much more specific than Where I’ve Been
- If your friends have installed the app, you can see where they’ve been
Cities I’ve Visited Cons
- It’s tough to pick some of the cities.
- The map on your profile page isn’t live. Your friends have to click on it and it opens up another page to show where you’ve been.
