What is the Politics in Canada Application?

If you are Canadian (or at least wish you were) and are interested in current political affairs, then Politics in Canada is the application for you. This application allows you to demonstrate what political party you support. After installing the application, all you have to do is enter your postal code, then select the party that you support, and an icon (representing your political affiliation) will be placed on a map of your province.

I’ve been watching this application for the past week as more people join up. This allowed me to see what areas supported what party. A nice graph is also available to show support throughout the nation and by province. The goal of the application is to raise awareness and to get people involved politically. This is seems to be successfully accomplished by providing links to all the party’s websites.

Pros

• The maps are linked up with Google Maps, allowing you to easily see the whole country
• Everything is broken down conveniently nationally and provincially
• Links to the political party’s official websites

Cons

• Would be nice to see a description of each political party, but it seems that the developer is already on top of this and should be appearing soon.

What is the Party Animal Facebook App?

It’s funny what loud music and a few beers can do to people at a party. They start acting like animals! Party Animals is a fun app developed by the people at MyPunchbowl that allows you to tell your friends what kind of animal they act like at Parties. You have several “animals” to choose from, like clueless kitty, a monkey, or a tardy turtle. My favorite was Chuck Norris. You can add more animals to choose from if you sign up with MyPunchbowl. (As an aside: I would definitely suggest checking out their site. It’s a web app that helps you plan parties. It would definitely make a good Facebook app, so I hope MyPunchbowl is working on that.)

• I didn’t notice any bugs
• It’s fun!

What is the Neighborhoods Facebook Application?

The Neighborhoods application shows you who lives close to you, what they’re up to, and what is happening in your neighborhood. Point2 has created a massive neighborhood database with over 50,000 neighborhoods from around the globe listed. The Neighborhoods is easy to use. All you do is select the state, city, and neighborhood you live in. If your neighborhood isn’t listed, you can easily add it to the database. Nice.

You can also add you street name to get more specific. Neighborhoods gives you the option of keeping your location information private, if you’re worried about stalkers coming out after you. After you add your info, you can see who else lives in your area.

• Find real estate listings in your neighborhood

• These neighborhood apps still give me the creeps; however, this app makes it easy to hide your location, but still get the benefit of knowing who lives in your area.
•  It would be cool if they displayed the most popular neighborhood or something along those lines

The Paperade Countdown Calendar is one of several countdown clocks Facebook applications. What makes this one different? Let’s see.

First, you can customize the style of your countdown clock by choosing from different skins. Right now, there are only three. Another cool feature is you can browse popular countdowns on Facebook either through looking at categories or performing a search. I also like how the app provides RSS feeds for popular countdowns. Say, you’re counting down to the release of The Simpsons Movie. The app will actually display a news feed about everything Simpsons. Pretty cool.

What is the Event Countdown Facebook App?

Event Countdown shows the time remaining before an event takes place. It is similar to the ‘Countdown’ app in its use, but has several differences that may be more suitable for some uses. For instance, Event Countdown allows you to display the time remaining as simple text or a dynamic scoreboard. It also lets you count up, if you want to know how long an event has been going on for (for example, the amount of time before a quitter had their last cigarette).
