D-Friend Facebook Application
What is the D-Friend Facebook Application?
D-Friend allows you to keep track of people who take you off their Facebook Friend list. If you don’t check your friend list frequently, you’ll often not notice when someone has taken you off their friend list. This is especially true if you have hundreds of Facebook friends.
D-Friend Pros
- Easily see no longer is your Facebook Friend
D-Friend Cons
- No real leverage of social network. It would be cool to see which person has d-friended the most people or something.

Paperade Countdown Calendar Facebook Applications
What is the Paperade Countdown Calendar Facebook Application?
The Paperade Countdown Calendar is one of several countdown clocks Facebook applications. What makes this one different? Let’s see.
First, you can customize the style of your countdown clock by choosing from different skins. Right now, there are only three. Another cool feature is you can browse popular countdowns on Facebook either through looking at categories or performing a search. I also like how the app provides RSS feeds for popular countdowns. Say, you’re counting down to the release of The Simpsons Movie. The app will actually display a news feed about everything Simpsons. Pretty cool.
Paperade Countdown Calendar Pros
- Share unlimited countdown events with friends
- Ability to search for popular countdowns
- Flash based, so it looks pretty slick
Paperade Countdown Cons
- Not many skins to choose from. Only three.

Event Countdown Facebook App
What is the Event Countdown Facebook App?
Event Countdown shows the time remaining before an event takes place. It is similar to the ‘Countdown’ app in its use, but has several differences that may be more suitable for some uses. For instance, Event Countdown allows you to display the time remaining as simple text or a dynamic scoreboard. It also lets you count up, if you want to know how long an event has been going on for (for example, the amount of time before a quitter had their last cigarette).
Event Countdown Pros
- Counts up as well
- Can be displayed as simple text or as a scoreboard image.
Event Countdown Cons
- Must be updated manually (creator is apparently working on this)

Battle of the Quotes Facebook Applications
Right now there are two Facebook Applications titled Quotes. One was developed by Jay Freeman and the other by Ashot Petrosian. Today we’ll do a side by side comparison of the two to see which one comes out on top.
Ashot Petrosain Version
- Easily tag what your friends have said.
- You decided how many quotes are displayed on your profile page
- You can show random quotes you’ve tagged.
Jay Freeman Version
- Easily tag what your friends have said
- Much more powerful customization abilities. You decide what font, size, and color the quotes appear as in your profile page.
- You can tag what your favorite quotes are and add those to your listings.
- You can see if any of your friends have tagged you.
- You can see ALL the quotes people have added using this application.
Jay Freeman’s app is the definite winner here. It’s just a much more robust version of the Quotes app. I think it also does a better job taking advantage of Facebook’s social network- an important criteria when deciding the usefulness of an app.

Emote Facebook Application
What is the Emote Facebook Application?
Emote is another app that allows you to share your mood with emoticons. It’s pretty much the same thing as the Moods application. The only difference that I saw was that Emote had more icons to choose from than Moods and it doesn’t put your mood status under your profile pic. You also can’t upload you own custom icons.
Emote Pros
- Tons of different icons to choose from including Simpsons and South Park emoticons.
- Not as buggy as Moods app.
Emote Cons
- Can’t upload custom icons
I think there’s a tie between Moods and Emote. While Moods does have more bugs, it does allow you to upload your own custom icon to display your mood.

Moods Facebook Application
What is the Moods Facebook Application?
Moods was developed by Kun Gao and Vu Nguyen. Moods allows you to share how you’re feeling with emoticons (those little smiley faces). After installing the Moods application, you’re taken to a page where you can select from a different emoticon sets such as Mario, IM style, and LOLcats. LOLcats are hilarious, so I chose them. Â Different pics of LOLcats with corresponding moods were brought up. After you pick which mood you are, it will show up with the pic in your Facebook News Feed. Your mood also appears underneath your profile pic.
Moods Pros
- 9 different icon sets to choose from with hundreds of different emoticons to choose from.
- Upload your own custom emoticons
Moods Cons
- Some people have been reporting bugs, but that’s expected with such a new app. Reported bugs include not being able to change mood. I haven’t had any problems with Moods so far.
Moods is a pretty cool app. The developers did a good job of taking the Facebook Status application and adding to it. Instead of just plain text, you can show an image to show how you’re feeling.

SuperPoke! Facebook Application
What is the SuperPoke! Facebook Application?
SuperPoke! allows your friends to do other actions besides poking you. The app was developed by Nikil Gandhy and Will Liu. SuperPoke is very similar to the X Me app, but there are some key differences. Unlike X Me, you can not create custom actions with SuperPoke! SuperPoke provides a list of different actions that you can allow your friends to do to you. SuperPoke! Appears in two places on your profile. You can have one action appear below your profile pic just like the poke button. You can have a list of several different actions that your friends can choose from in the body of your profile. The app allows you to see which of your friends are using SuperPoke! as well as give you a feed of your friends most recent actions.
SuperPoke! Pros
- Very easy to use. It doesn’t seem as confusing as X me.
- Lots of different actions to choose from.
SuperPoke Cons
- Can’t make you own custom actions
- News feed only updates some of the action. This is Facebook’s fault. But you can create your own SuperPoke! feed.
I thought SuperPoke! is much better than X Me. Despite not being completely customizable, SuperPoke! is much easier to use and causes less of a hassle.

X Me Facebook Application
What is the X Me Facebook Application?
X Me was developed by Jia Shen. This little app creates more actions besides the classic “poke.” When you open the app, you’re taken to a window where you get to enter in your different actions you want added to your profile. The app also gives you a list of the top 10 actions right now. As of this writing “hug, slap, and bitch slap” are the top three. You can also see which of your friends are using this app.
There is a similar app out there called “Superpoke.” I haven’t tried it out yet, but I will soon and give you a report.
X Me Pros
- Let’s you mix things up a bit instead of having the simple poke.
- I liked how I could see which of my friends are using this.
X Me Cons
- People have reported some bugs. I didn’t have any problems with it.
- This isn’t a critique of the app itself, but the apps discussion board has topics that have nothing to do with the app. For example, “Bible: Fact or Fiction?” Huh?
If you’re tired of just being poked by your friends, give X Me a try. Personally, I’ve never understood the whole concept of poking. I can see apps like X Me being used by young people to show their love interest in another person. Instead of calling, enamored girl will give her crush a “hug” instead of a “poke.” If she really wanted to show her interest, she might opt for the “kiss.” Ah. Facebook love.

Super Wall! Facebook Application
What is the Super Wall! Facebook Application?
Super Wall! was developed by CollegeWikis. The idea is to allow a quick and easy way to share information and events about your school. In order for it to work, your school must have a wiki on CollegeWiki. The app sits in your profile with a scrolling list of links you can click to give you more information.
Super Wall! Pros
- Adding info to the wiki from Facebook is pretty easy. You can do it straight from your profile.
- The developers are doing a great job taking suggestions and incorporating them.
Super Wall! Cons
- Not all the schools are listed. However, you can ask a developer to add it for you.
- How’s this different from Facebook’s network page? I couldn’t figure out exactly how this is different from my school’s network page on Facebook. Not only can I find a calendar of events going on at my school, but people can start discussions, post items, and sell stuff on the market place. I’d love to hear from the developers their perspective on this and how they differinitate it from the Facebook Network Page.
