What is the WikiMe Facebook application?

WikiMe is a text box that appears on your profile. Anyone can edit this text box, and you’re shown the name of the last person who did. When placed on the right hand side of the profile, the text box only takes up about half the column, leaving a lot of blank space.

What is the FlipFrames Facebook application?

FlipFrames allows you to display your Facebook Photos in a unique frame. You have the option of uploading your own or choosing photos in your Facebook album. The photos are displayed slide show style on your profile.

You have 54 different frames to choose from. They all have that bubbly web 2.0 feel to them. You can add comic book style word bubbles to your pics and add funny dialog to your photos.

Uploading photos is easy. There’s not a lot of rigmarole and took only a second. My only complaint is you can’t pick Facebook photos that you’re tagged in but are in other people’s albums.

What is the Dynamite Polls Facebook App?

Dynamite Polls allows you to easily create polls to be displayed in your profile page. Your friends can then vote right from your profile. A unique feature is that your friends can add their own choices to the poll. While that sounds like a good idea, you just dilute poll results by having too many options. You do have the option of disabling that feature, though.

• The creator has made a poll for which features users would like to see next. Instant feedback!

BillMonk Facebook Application

What is the BillMonk Facebook App?

BillMonk allows you to easily keep track of shared expenses or IOUs with your friends. BillMonk has a nice clean interface and it’s not confusing at all to use. You choose either to create a new loan, new shared bill, or report a payment. When you create a new shared bill, you can select which friends participated in the bill, how much you paid, and how much your friend has to pay. BillMonk then sends your Facebook friend a message and displays the figures on the canvas page so you can see. BillMonk allows you to tag different payments and make comments about different bills. So, now you can take passive aggressivism to the net.

BillMonk also creates a widget to put on your profile so your friends who are using BillMonk can create new debts, shared bills, or report a payment with you right from your profile.

BillMonk is sort of similar to Buxfer. The only difference I found is that Buxfer also tracks your personal transactions.

• Nice, simple layout
• Very user friendly
• Keep track of loans and shared expenses easily
• Don’t need to have a BillMonk account to use

BillMonk Cons

• It’s one trick pony. It only does bills and shared expenses. I would enjoy using BillMonk’s simple interface to keep track of my personal expenses. However, what BillMonk does, it does well. So, it can be forgiven.
• Doesn’t display who owes you what on your profile. I think showing who owes you money right on Facebook profile for all the world to see would be an awesome motivation for your friends to pay up. Guilt and shame have motivated humanity for centuries. Cruel? Yes, but so is not paying your half of the rent.

What is the Elbows Favorite Tracks Facebook application?

Elbows Favorite Tracks shows albums on your profile from the bands listed in your favorite band. Clicking on an album will bring you to a site that will link you to an mp3 from the album. It doesn’t do much within Facebook itself, and feels more like an oversized link to the Elbows website.

• Way too much outside linkage, feels like cheap advertising.

What is the Bookshelf Facebook application?

Some Facebook applications allow you to show off your book collection. Others might allow you to show off your DVDs. Some are also for CDs and games. Bookshelf does all of the above with an enormous database of items that you can add to your collection. It even lets you label each item so others will know whether you have it, want it, have tried it, or love it. It lets you know which people on Facebook either have what you want or want what you have, making borrowing from friends much easier. After enough items have been placed on your Bookshelf, the application will also suggest material that you might like, and the suggestions are fairly accurate.

• Suggests products you’ll probably actually have quite a bit of interest in.
• Borrowing system lets you know who has what you want.

• Looks awkward on left-hand side of profile (some text cut off)

JiwaMusic Facebook Application

What is the JiwaMusic Facebook application?

JiwaMusic is a database of songs that you can search and add to your profile to share with other. They claim to have over 300,000 songs in their database and so far I’ve had no trouble finding any of my favourites. Many different genres are included as well and a user can find anything from Mozart to Moby. The search is a little rusty, however, as results can only be organized by artist and must be browsed one page at a time, rather then allowing the user to jump to any page they wish. This made finding songs by the band ‘X’ quite difficult. The major problem with this app is the amount of space it takes on your profile. Every song you add appears and takes up about a centimeter and a half (quarter inch) of profile space, and there is no option to limit the number of songs that appear in your profile. JiwaMusic is still in beta.

What is the Underground Apps Facebook application?

Underground Apps is a useful tool for those who want to get a head start on all the best apps before they come out. It doesn’t display anything on your profile, but when activated it allows you to browse and install Facebook applications that have not yet been released to the general public.

Underground Apps Pros

• Allows developers to test their apps without having to wait for them to be uploaded to the Facebook application list.
• Grants access to more apps.
• Rating system.

Underground Apps Cons

• Very few apps are currently available.
• Many apps are currently available on both this application and in the Facebook directory.
• Apps are often in early stages of development and can be buggy.

PersonalDNA Facebook App

What is the PersonalDNA Facebook App?

PersonalDNA is a personality test that allows you to share your results on Facebook. The test is done on a separate site and you will need to create an account in order to add your results to your Facebook. Once saved, the results appear in one of two forms of colourful graphs that can be examined by moving the cursor over each colour.

• Analyzes many different character traits.
• Pretty colours.

PersonalDNA Cons

• Graphs are incoherent, almost illegible.
• Only useless information appears in profile.
• Numerous oxymorons (at least with my own results).
• An account on another site is necessary, though no email address is required.

What is the Bobbleheads Facebook App?

Bobbleheads lets you add one of several characters to your facebook profile. When clicked, the characters head will bob up and down and they will say one of their favourite quotes. Characters include Napoleon Dynamite, Borat, and George Bush, to name a few. More characters will appear later on.

Bobblehead Pros

- Nicely done, resembles a real bobblehead.

- Amusing, full audio quotes that load very fast.

- New characters being added all the time.

- Currently not many characters to choose from.
