What is the Fortune Cookie Facebook Application?
Fortune Cookie was developed by Slide, the same people who brought you Top Friends. It’s a simple app. It’s just a picture of an opened fortune cookie with a random message on your profile page. Right now mine says “It’s not me.” It’s not me? What the hell is that supposed to mean?
Fortune Cookie Pros
- If you go to the app’s homepage, you’ll find a discussion called “… in bed.” Basically you take the fortunes that the app has spit out and add “in bed” to it. There’s lots of fun ones. Mine: “It’s not you… in bed.” Huh?
Fortune Cookie Cons
- Doesn’t take advantage of Facebook’s social network. There’s no social interaction going on here. It’s just a way to personalize/clutter your profile page.
I was surprised by the number of people using this app. As of this writing, there were almost 3.5 million Facebookers using this app. I guess if you want to personalize your Facebook profile, this is one way of doing it. As far as being useful and taking advantage of the social connectedness of Facebook, this app is definitely lacking.

I really didn’t like this application much. It seemed rather pointless to me because you could just change it yourself to get whichever one you want. They don’t change on their own either, which would be a nice feature. Just well.. not to sound redundant but.. pointless.
I had to block this application because it has such an aggressive policy. When your friends add it, it offers then to send a message to all their contacts… And they have to opt-out not to do so. This is the most useless application ever. My piece of advice to everyone : block it!!
